Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital is proud to offer An American Diabetes Association (ADA) accredited and State certified diabetes education program. We can provide you with the latest in diabetes education and resources like insulin pumps, and continuous glucose monitors.
The following are some of the topics that will be discussed:
• Carbohydrate Counting.
• Lab tests and their meaning.
• Oral medications and insulin updates.
• Label reading techniques.
• Sick day management.
• Weight loss techniques.
• Heart healthy issues.
• Foot care, eye care, kidney care and skin care.
• Coping with diabetes.
• Home blood sugar monitoring.
• Blood sugar reactions.
• Ongoing diabetes research.
Our goal is to help you learn how to control this disease, live healthier, help prevent complications, and improve the quality of your life.
Pre-Diabetes education and support is also available.

Insurance companies are recognizing the importance of Diabetes Education to help prevent long-term complications. Medicare and most insurance companies are covering most of the costs of diabetes education.
If you do not have insurance, please call to find alternative ways to receive diabetes education. We will be happy to assist you!
Diabetes Support Group
Our diabetes support group usually meets on the third Tuesday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Exceptions to this date may occur if we have a special program or speaker. Please see our website Events Calendar or our local Advisor for class dates. We also offer Type 1 diabetes support groups. Please call (906) 341-3210 for more information.
Pre-Diabetes Support Group
Our pre-diabetes support group usually meets on the third Thursday of every month from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Changes to this schedule may occur.
